Sultan School District Welcomes Dr. Paul Douglas as the Executive Director of Special Programs and School Support
06/09/2020
Dear Sultan School District Parents and Guardians,
We would like to introduce our new Executive Director of Special Programs and School Support, Dr. Paul Douglas, who will be joining us from the Ferndale School District beginning July 1, 2020. We were very impressed with Dr. Douglas’s extensive experience in education and his service-oriented disposition. The candidate pool was very strong and we are grateful for the opportunity to hire Dr. Douglas.
Dr. Douglas has served as an Executive Director of Student Services, Elementary and Secondary Administration, Special Education teacher, and paraeducator. Some of his experience in Special Education includes focusing on Universal Design Learning for students which is inclusionary instruction in general education classrooms while providing multi-tiered supports. He also was instrumental in developing and implementing social-emotional learning models and training staff in Positive Behavior Intervention Supports and SMART goal setting and assessments.
In addition to his educational experience, a unique skill set that Dr. Douglas brings to the Sultan School District is his ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people; this is evidenced through his dedication to service as a law enforcement officer, his collaboration with the Army and Air Force to create parent partnerships and health and wellness programs, his Lummi Nation parent partnership facilitation, and his creation of a gang awareness program for the city of Auburn and the Auburn School District.
Dr. Douglas values the importance of teamwork and collaboration as a service-oriented leader. His core belief is that students and parents must be included in the learning process and that appropriate collaboration with all stakeholders is essential to helping individual students succeed. Consistent themes in Dr. Douglas’s letters of recommendation include his compassion, thoughtfulness, approachability, and desire for growth. As the 2019-2020 school year ends and we transition into summer, we will facilitate opportunities for families to meet and get to know Dr. Douglas.
Sincerely,
Dan Chaplik
