Dear SSD Families and Community Members,

May is here, and the sun is beginning to shine, while the warmth in the air in the air is apparent. It is also a time when our seniors are closing in on the last couple of months of their K-12 school experience. From this day forward it their focus will be about finishing strong and taking care of business in areas that may need further attention. I want to remind you that the last day of school (a half day) will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The date for graduation has not changed and will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the stadium on the campus of Sultan High School. Below are some key upcoming dates as well as some positive information.

Maritime Career Exploration

On Thursday, May 8th, twenty-five juniors and seniors will attend a maritime trades career exploration at The Port of Everett. This continues a district focus on exposing students to career choices in the trades. At this event, students will have a chance to learn about maritime career paths, including pay and benefits. There will be hands-on apprenticeship opportunities to gain an understanding of the various careers available to students. Here is a flyer with more details about the event.

Sultan Elementary School Student Growth

Congratulations to the students, staff, and leadership for a job well done! I was recently made aware that Sultan Elementary School is one of just 16% of schools in Washington State that will be recognized in the area of student. This is an amazing accomplishment amid significant growth and enrollment pressure. A copy of the press release can be found at this link.

Modernization Grants

About a year ago or so, we applied for a modernization grant for the amount of $11,900,000 to do some upgrades in our schools. We were recently informed by OSPI that the planning grants will be funded in July 2025, with construction grants to follow in July 2027! The grant can be used on a number of different items, including HVAC, Plumbing Systems, Electrical Systems, Security Systems, Interior Finishes, and Site Improvements. Once the planning grant is awarded and a scope of work is developed, we will communicate what the project will entail.
