Police lights on top of vehicle at night

Around 11 a.m., the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Sultan High School was doing his usual security check on campus when he observed a shotgun in plain view on the backseat of a student’s vehicle parked on campus. The SRO confirmed the registered owner of the vehicle was an 18-year-old student at the school. That student was immediately contacted and taken into custody. The suspect gave permission for the gun to be retrieved from his vehicle along with shotgun shells. The 18-year-old was transported and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds. The student stated he had gone recreational shooting yesterday and forgot to remove the firearm from his vehicle. There is no active threat to students or staff. No further updates are expected.
